Heredia - Escazu 72-87 An exciting game was played in . Second ranked Escazu faced 4th placed Heredia. Guests from San Jose (5-1) defeated host Heredia (4-3) 87-72. Escazu had a 37-25 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international forward David Shedden (197-95) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds. The former international guard Daniel Shedden (190-96, college: MSUB) contributed with 12 points and 4 steals for the winners. Five Escazu players scored in double figures. The former international power forward Daniel Simmons (194-80) answered with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists and Herny Linton (-91) added 22 points in the effort for Heredia. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Escazu maintains second place with 5-1 record having just one point less than leader ARBA. Heredia at the other side dropped to the third position with three games lost. Escazu will play against Alajuela (#6) in the next round. Heredia will play against the league's leader ARBA and it may be a tough game between close rivals. This time they crushed 5th ranked Alajuela (2-6) 97-28. ARBA held Alajuela to an opponent 22.9 percent shooting from the field compared to 56.5 percent accuracy of the winners and had 23 for 33 from the free-throw line, while Alajuela only scored five points from the stripe. ARBA forced 25 Alajuela turnovers. It was a great evening for the former international swingman Jerson Harris (196-88) who led his team to a victory scoring 12 points and 6 rebounds. The former international point guard Isaac Conejo (182-94) helped adding 11 points and 7 steals. Five ARBA players scored in double figures. At the losing side Jhan Mayorga responded with 8 points and 6 rebounds and Juan de-Dios scored 4 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. ARBA have a solid series of four victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 5-0 record. Alajuela lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth position with six games lost. ARBA will meet Heredia (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Alajuela will play against the league's second-placed Escazu and hope to secure a win. Siquirres were defeated by Perez Zeledon in a tough game on the road 72-79. Perez Zeledon made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. Strangely Siquirres outrebounded Perez Zeledon 53-26 including a 40-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. The former international forward Yackie Acuna (190-80) fired 33 points (!!!) for the winners. Jose Granados chipped in 10 points and 7 rebounds. The former international center Harold Mitchell (200-83) produced a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds and Christopher Calderon (-89) added 17 points and 10 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) respectively for lost side. Perez Zeledon moved-up to fifth place. Siquirres at the other side dropped to the fourth position with three games lost. Perez Zeledon are looking forward to face league's second-placed Escazu in San Jose in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Siquirres will play against Asobasca and are hoping to win this game. Fourth ranked Heredia (4-3) played at the court of 6th ranked Asobasca (1-5). Heredia managed to secure a 9-point victory 82-73. Heredia forced 29 Asobasca turnovers. It was an exceptional evening for the former international power forward Daniel Simmons (194-80) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 19 rebounds. Panamanian Amir Alvarado (198-84, college: Marshalltown) accounted for 20 points and 14 rebounds for the winning side. Heredia's coach used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Guard Jaime Alfaro (185-3) came up with 26 points and 9 rebounds and Eduardo Murillo (-95) added 18 points and 16 rebounds respectively for Asobasca in the defeat. Heredia moved-up to third place. Asobasca at the other side dropped to the bottom position with five games lost. Heredia's next round opponent will be league's leader ARBA in San Jose and it will be for sure the game of the week. Asobasca will play against Siquirres (#4) and hope to win that game.
